Incredibly some knockoff cutter head inserts are quite a bit more expensive than the Shelix. So a proper comparison Shelix vs other requires comparing #of inserts, # of rows of inserts, are they angled, are they radiused.

More info here … WebJan 31, 2016 · The shelix slices but leaves a slightly cupped surface which some people don't like though I have no complaints after running lots of Jatoba though my planer. Jatoba is notoriously hard to sand so it's close to a worst case scenario - looked fine to me though. And, a $10 cabinet scraper works really well on it.

WebOct 11, 2024 · I installed the Shelix in mine years ago. No regrets other than an increase in snipe, which I have learned to work around. Great finish on straight grain and no tearout on wild grain. whether it’s worth doubling the cost of the planer may be debatable but I never even rotated the cutters in 5 years or so.
